anyways today is going to be about AI in development environments
ever since gpt3 came out, ive been trying to get it to make me faster at whatever i do, help me write out projects, help me with cold start problems and general quick querying and what not.
but i properly started using it for “code” only after gpt4
Jai ( the founder i worked with in 2023 ) gave us all a subscription to gpt4, i initially thought okay i can just pawn off small tasks to it and that’s about it
then i gave it a script to optimize and write, mindblowing result it was close to perfect.
while it blew my mind at that moment, i was only fixated on the fact that i could get so much done so quickly and not have to do any of the hard grunt work
but after starting to use it, it was just a pile of shit, it kept going off the point and not producing any usable code other than very obvious intern level tasks
then comes claude blows everything out of the water even before sonnet, claude opus was game changer in my development workflow
i could essentially talk through the specs with it, it would give me the steps needed to build it
and i would just ask it to give me boilerplate for the functions, models whatever i need- and the results were actually mind bogglingly correct
although cursor is not as good :(
but using claude and feeding it in data and talking through problems has been such a productivity improvement for me.
not only productivity, but i also learn from it, it adds in a few properties and querky things to code gens which i would’ve never used / seen before so now it also helps me write more optimized code!
cant wait for the day when i just need to know english and ill be able to build applications at will!
