why wouldn’t you work on what interests you the most?

  • doesnt bring you money
  • ur not smart enough?

What if you’re not sure what you want? What if you’re attracted to the idea of making money and more attracted to some kinds of work than others, but neither attraction predominates? How do you break ties?

The key here is to understand that such ties are only apparent. When you have trouble choosing between following your interests and making money, it’s never because you have complete knowledge of yourself and of the types of work you’re choosing between, and the options are perfectly balanced. When you can’t decide which path to take, it’s almost always due to ignorance. In fact you’re usually suffering from three kinds of ignorance simultaneously: you don’t know what makes you happy, what the various kinds of work are really like, or how well you could do them.

holy shit big dawg

this is so true

i dont know what makes me happy i dont know what various kinds of work are really like ( in the weeds ) i dont know how well i could do them

should i set out on the multi-year journey of finding it?

or maybe just maybe i could do it faster?

make a list and speed run through them?

judging different kinda works by seeing who your colleagues would be kind a work mainly for how well it pays, you’ll be surrounded by other ppl who chose it for the same reason and that makes it even more soul sucking

i think i understand it more

this is what u need to do:

  • make a list of things you enjoy doing
  • iter list finding
    • whether the work ppl do in it are actually fun?
    • whether the people in it live lives you can see yourself in?
    • whether you are good at it
    • scope for ambition
