What is the “gym” equivalent for your mind? And does it have similar benefits as the gym?
- I think it’s working through hard problems in math / physics / programming
- Working through hard books / content which requires focus.
to generalize, a cognitively challenging task requiring high levels of focus and high intensity of “mental” push to achieve the objective.
neurologically, effortful cognitive work strengthens problem solving circuits in the brain, and improves attention control.
neurochemically, it would mean a boost of dopamine ( reinforcing this action ), serotonin ( post-completion stabilizing effect ) and norepinephrine ( during the task to sustain focus )
I am yet to study this but experimenting with it in mental gym
